I'm making Delia''s Tunisian Aubuergine salad (right now!!) ... I thought I had allspice berries, but I don't - just allspice powder, which is very different.

Any suggestions on what I could substitute the allspice berries with? Maybe juniper berries?

What so allspice berries taste of? I've never used them. (Apart from allspice obviously!!)

Well, you learn something everyday!

I've just looked up Allspice berries on Wiki ... and it says that ground allspice is the ground Allspice berry.

I thought it was a blend of sweet spices - cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. I've always thought that, but I've just read the back of my tub of ground allspice more clearly .. it isn't a blend .. it's evocative of those spices ... which is why it was coined allspice!

Who else thought it was a blend of spices? Just goes to show you should read things clearly rather than skipping over words and assuming they've sunk in.

I have a Hairy Bikers recipe for Auberginey something or other (that's helpful isn't it. ;-) ) I'll go and see what they use in that to give it the taste of Tunisia! Watch this space!

Well you won't want my help then which is probably no help at all! I hope you enjoy your aubergines. Bon appetit!
