Going to make the above tomorrow but am not going to buy a tin of molasses syrup just for this. I have both maple syrup and honey - which shall I use instead? I thought the maple syrup would be nice but of course the honey is thicker so maybe better? What do you finks?

Hi DS,

I haven't made this cake, but I would use marble because I don't like honey. It works in every cake.

I don't think maple would do it somehow. Do you have treacle?

Just thought, have you remembered or noticed that the price of maple syrup has gone through the roof?
Cheaper to buy the molasses at the moment I think.

No I don't have treacle otherwise of course I'd have used that. Don't even have any ordinary syrup which I think would be thick enough.

KF - Marble is a bit too hard on my teeth! ;-)))))

Thanks Dolly - I was only worried that it required the thick consistency of the treacle but i guess you're right - what's a teaspoon between friends.
