Electric Light Bulbs  (5 Replies)
Thursday 08 January 08:45

Is it only the 100 watt bulb that is being phased out? I use both the old and new type bulbs but not 100w - only 60w. Some of the new low energy bulbs don't fit ok in our table lamps - they stick out at the top of the shades so I still use the old type. Dottie May

chocolate workshop  (3 Replies)
Wednesday 07 January 18:48

Just wondered if anyone had tried to enter the competition to win a chocolate workshop (see right hand side). I keep getting an error message when I try. Is this just me (or is it a message telling me I should not be thinking about chocolate!!)

Email from No. 10  (1 Reply)
Wednesday 07 January 17:47

I was very surprised to see in my Inbox that there was an email from No. 10. Then I remembered that Flour Fairy was asking us back in July to sign a petition to prevent about 56 houses being built in her village. They sent me a web site - www.number10.gov.uk/Page17892 if you would like to read the response. Dottie Mayx

For what it's worth, I've finally got around to posting a few of my favourite recipes/stuff on my recipe page thing.
Been stuffed with horrible cold/flu/nasty nastiness and had some time, in between boxes of tissues.
Anyway,
that's all,

Dinner tonight....  (15 Replies)
Wednesday 07 January 15:01

Haven't done this for a while....
what are we all cooking??
I have just made a Leek & Stilton Quiche (BBC Food recipe - The Leek Growers' Association)
have made this before and it really is delish and great to use up any stilton still hanging about.
Did a stupid thing though, not thinking, put it in the oven and then realized I didn't want to cook it until about 6ish to eat hot, so took it out and put into fridge for later....
just having a nice salad with it and that will feed us tomorrow night too.
Friday night having nephew & his wife round for chinese, so that's me sorted with cooking until saturday.

I have volunteered (if that's the right word) to give cookery lessons at school. I work with the 3 - 5 year olds so that should be interesting. All hints and tips welcome.

What happened to proper seasons?  (6 Replies)

Our local Tesco now has displays of Easter eggs and hot cross buns - and the Christmas puddings, crackers etc. are still on offer in the store! Does this rushing to the next season depress other people, too?

Anyone seen or heard from Liz from Cumbria?  (5 Replies)

I am sure I haven't seen her name on any postings for at least a couple of weeks and a day wouldn't normally go past without some contribution or funny story from her.

Perhaps she's on holiday or something?

Potatoes ...  (6 Replies)
Tuesday 06 January 17:09

As got bad back can't do gardening really, so have ordered some potato bags to grow them on the patio. Has anyone done this ? The sacks of compost were delivered today, just waiting for three containers and the seed potatoes. Do you think this will be cheaper than buying potatoes eventually ? I hope so. We don't eat that many.

OH always takes XXL in shirts as he is broad shouldered but we end up having to take loads of material out of the waist and i wondered if anyone out there could recommend a make of shirt that might fit better. There must be lots of guys without a huge beer gut but withbig shoulders. He has some made to measure shirts but they are expensive for everyday use.Sorry if the subject line misled anyone !!!!!

Putting on weight  (8 Replies)
Monday 05 January 18:35

Hi
This isn't a normal post-christmas complaint I know but can any one suggest some some healthy, not too carb heavy recipies to help me put some wieght on safely? I caught the awful bug doing the rounds on Boxing Day and have dropped a lot of weight quickly and feel absolutely skeletal! I need recipies for lunch at work (fridge, microwave, kettle and that's it!) and supper (mid-week hopefully not more than 45 minutes prep and cooking) which will not make me to sluggish after lunch! Any help is much appreciated!
Thank you
Caity

. . . from a week in Florida followed by a two week Caribbean cruise - what have you done to the weather?!

As some of you will know, the holiday was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary (in August). It was wonderful and if anyone wants to go on an extra special holiday, I can't praise Silversea Cruises (www.silversea.com) highly enough - the food and service are fantastic and it's completely all in (drinks, tips etc).

Oh well, back to the real world now! Have done two lots of washing already!

Anyone want some. Been snowing since two and now it is falling really heavy. Hubby & i have been standing out on the terrace watching it, quite strange how peaceful it is, looks like the whole sky is falling apart.or someone up there is having a huge pillow fight.
