Recipe of the Day Sunday 7 September
This is my version of the famous Italian classic – best made in the autumn when there's a glut of red, ripe, full-flavoured tomatoes, but it's still good in winter, as there are now some well-flavoured varieties available. Either way, the tomatoes need to be very red and ripe.
We all know the importance of eating foods that are in season - not only do they taste better with optimum flavour but they cost less too!
Our monthly feature, In season, rounds up the must-buy foods of the month and lists some of Delia's recipes that incorporate them.
For September, it's time to enjoy late-summer Mediterranean imports such as aubergines and peppers, lovely home-grown apples and the last of the season's tomatoes and courgettes.
